“A Year in Pictures” Exhibit at the Pratt Institute

NOVEMBER 12, 2014

On November 12th, we all gathered to celebrate the winning students of our District 75 calendar contest:

“A Century of Jazz in New York City”

All the artwork on display has been created by students on the autism spectrum, confirming that regardless of ability, the arts unite us all.

Carmen Fariña, Chancellor of all New York City Public Schools; Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith; Gary Hecht, Superintendent of District 75; Barbara Joseph, Deputy Superintendent; and Thomas Schutte, President of Pratt Institute were all in attendance to congratulate and present certificates to our winners.

Upon receiving his certificate from our executive director, David Marquis, one student exclaimed: “I am an artist”. These feelings of pride and contentment were illuminated on the glowing faces of the 150 winning students. President Thomas Schutte remarked on how pleased he was with the heartwarming success of this collaboration between VSA-NYC, Marquis Studios, and Pratt Institute.
