Brendan's Story

One of the most impactful aspects of art is its ability to shine a light on unique abilities and perspectives. Through hands-on arts programs, Marquis Studios is creating opportunities for students all across NYC to cultivate their talents and be celebrated by their communities.

Nowhere is this more evident than at PS 37R, a Staten Island school serving students with significant disabilities. For PS 37's students, the arts are a tool for engagement, a vehicle for self-expression and a pathway to revealing their talents. For over 20 years, Marquis Studios has provided inclusive programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of PS 37's student body. Our unique, long-term partnership has made it possible for our Teaching Artists to develop meaningful, long-lasting connections with every facet of their school community: students, teachers and families.

Hear from one parent how having access to Marquis's programs has impacted her son, Brendan:

"My son Brendan has been going to PS 37R in Staten Island since he was five years old. Brendan has participated in a number of Marquis Studios programs. I want to thank everyone at Marquis Studios for the love, patience, and talent that they bring every time they come to our school. He and his classmates have been able to do things like make their own puppets with the help of a wonderful Marquis Teaching Artist. They were on display at Snug Harbor Children's Museum. Last year my son made a self-portrait, which was beautiful. A few years ago, Marquis Studios gave the children awards for their artwork – I was so proud of my son that day." -Anna B., PS 37R parent
