Thank you PS 45 in Staten Island for an inspired visit!
We want to thank the principal, teachers, teaching artists, and students at PS45r for their enthusiasm and hard work in their current Marquis Studios puppetry and Taiko drumming residencies. Today Marquis Studios staff conducted a site visit to these programs, and special guests, including representatives from the Japan Foundation, NYSCA, and City Council Member Deborah Rose, were very impressed with the work these children are doing. The residences visited are part of the Japan Project at PS45r, which also includes Oragami and Bunraku puppetry, and are designed to deepen students’ understanding of Japanese culture. These programs are part of the efforts of Marquis Studios to promote cultural competency among changing demographics in NYC public schools. Other programs focused on cultural awareness include Islamic Arts, Latin Percussion, Hispanic Arts, Chinese ribbon dancing, African dance, and more. Thank you to PS45r, Marquis Studios, and today’s special guests for your commitment to arts education!
