COLLAGE (grades PreK-12)

Students will be introduced to collage as a means of creating layered pictures both representational and abstract. Paper and other materials will be used as a means to consider pictorial relationships of shape, edge, size and placement. By cutting, tearing and layering paper, classes will create pictures that probe the ways artists organize an image through the principles of design. Through an examination of collage beginning with the Cubists, the role of the medium in modern and contemporary art will be discussed, with students creating examples of photo montage, assemblage and found- material works.
