  • LARGE PARADE PUPPETS (grades 5-12)

The residency integrates collaborative design and group learning to create large-scale parade or pageant style puppets. These kind of puppets play an important role in Carnivale celebrations throughout South America and are seen in Mexico on holidays as well. Students will be given an introduction to this unique puppet form, shown examples from plays, carnivals, parades, pageants, and political rallies. Each class chooses a song, poem or theme creating images based on it. Students work in groups of 3 or more to co-design and build these paper-mache puppets. The residency culminates in an outdoor parade or pageant celebrating an event or theme.

Ample storage space is needed for this residency.
