  • MASK MAKING
    (see also MASK THEATER)

This program offers a unique opportunity for students to be engaged with a range of multicultural traditions in fun and exciting ways. Masks depict human and animal faces and are an important feature in pageants, plays, ceremonies, rituals and festivals the world over. Masks can be appreciated solely as objects of beauty or as performance costumes. Students will craft masks with a variety of materials, such as paper, wire, plaster and foil, to create three-dimensional works which can be worn. Throughout this process, the teacher highlights the role of features, expression and exaggeration as key aspects to be incorporated in mask design, as well as the importance of two-dimensional design components such as color, value and pattern to visual presentation.
