PAINTING with tempera, acrylic, pastel or watercolor (grades PreK-12)

This course offers an introduction to painting through the media of oil pastels, watercolor, tempera and acrylic paint and tools.  Through creating paintings which represent their personal observations and experience, the student’s creative expression is awakened by color and form. The study of color is a primary focus, and is considered from varied aspects -the color wheel, primary and secondary colors, hue, value and intensity, tints, shades, temperature and color schemes -through several thematic projects. Students learn how to mix, blend, layer and apply paint through the use of brushes and other tools.  Through these methods and tools, the teacher broadens their visual vocabulary and help students realize a new expressive capacity.
