PERSONAL POWER BANNERS (grades 3-12)

This residency introduces students to the power of symbolism in the art forms of many different cultures. The class observes and discusses the symbolic creations of cultures as diverse as: Native Americans, Japanese Shamans, Indian Mystic as well as Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish religions.  As another learning exercise in the power of symbolism, students closely examine the many symbols, both mystical and secular, appearing on a one-dollar bill. Afterward, each student creates unique “personal power symbols” which he applies to a six-foot banner.
