What is a residency program?
All of Marquis Studios’ teaching artists have received training in the Department of Education’s, Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.
Through our training seminars, held every six weeks, all teaching artists have trained in age-appropriate curriculum design. Using the pre-planning meetings with the school staff to gather specific information on the level of art skills and particular needs of each classroom. The teaching artist designs a residency lesson plan that is age-appropriate, recognizes the students’ previous exposure to their art form, and serves to move the students towards the next Blueprint “benchmark” in their arts education. After approval by Marquis’ administrative staff, the lesson plan is distributed to all participating school arts specialists or classroom teachers and a copy given to the school’s arts liaison.
We provide services based on a trimester system:
Cycle I is September-December
Cycle II is January-March
Cycle III is April-June
Summer school is usually July 5th -August 5th
Residencies consist of ten or more visits by the teaching artist. All of these programs are adapted to the appropriate age level, and available K-8. Marquis staff will specifically advise the school of adaptations for specific age groups.
