SCULPTURE
In this course, the student is introduced to three-dimensional, low-relief sculpture. The process of introducing the important elements of design begins by assembling a variety of materials such as wire, cardboard, Popsicle sticks and paper -mache that will be used to create three-dimensional sculptures. Objects such as tubes, cork or rocks, are incorporated to illustrate the three dimensional aspect. Creating these sculptures, the student learns about spatial problem-solving, balance and proportion and the relationship of form, volume and shape. The curriculum includes the study of the work of sculptors from Calder to Brancusi, with an emphasis on twentieth century artists.
