Elizabeth Hanson is currently teaching and performing Brazilian music in New York City. She started teaching at Marquis Studios in January 2008 and has been teaching for over ten years. As a percussionist, she currently plays with Maracatu New York and has played with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic, and the American Institute Opera Orchestra in Austria. While living in São Paulo she recorded on a CD of Brazilian music called Espaço Imaginario. Elizabeth has a degree in percussion performance from the University of Michigan and has studied marimba with Keiko Abe in Tokyo and more recently spent two years researching and playing Brazilian folk and instrumental music in São Paulo. Elizabeth works with New York City youth through various arts education organizations such as Brooklyn Philharmonic, Symphony Space, Manhattan New Music Project and Global Arts To Go. |
