On Wednesday, June 8, 2016, Council Member Cabrera joined the festivities at 170X’s Annual Art Festival. We were thrilled that Councilman Cabrera was able to speak to parents, teachers, and students. It was a true pleasure to have him join us in celebrating the talented students at PS170X.
The “Art is…Performance!” featured music led by Marquis Studios Teaching Artist, Hector Morales and performances led by PS170X’s Dance Teacher, Amanda Wechter-Sloan. The performances included: original songs written and performed by the students, the bucket drumming pieces explored music from other countries, and the final performance was a collaboration of bucket drumming and funk dance.
The “Art is…” exhibit showcased work by students in grades K-2. The students explored the principals of design and experimented with different materials, while learning about various artists and cultures throughout history. Art Teacher Laura Bordes curated the exhibit, which included works form Marquis Studios Teaching Artist, Aurelio del Muro’s Visual Art residencies.
A special thanks to Principal Sonia Acevedo for your continued pARTnership™ with Marquis Studios.
