Paul King and NYC Student Artists Honored at 2016 Marquis Studios / VSA NYC Award Ceremony
On December 2, 2016, Marquis Studios / VSA NYC presented the VSA NYC Award Ceremony at the Spruce Street School in Lower Manhattan.
Paul King, Executive Director of the Office of Arts & Special Projects at the New York City Department of Education accepted the VSA NYC Arts Advocate Award from David Marquis, Director of Marquis Studios / VSA NYC for his leadership in key initiatives to improve arts education in NYC public schools.
Schools Chancellor, Carmen Fariña introduced Paul King, thanked him for his work, and praised him for implementing programs that increased equity and access to the arts for students, teachers and the school community. In addition to receiving the VSA NYC Arts Advocate Award, Paul King also received an original Laser Art Painting donated by Davnel from PS 138@JHS47M.
Ronnie Shuster, Former Principal of 94M accepted the VSA NYC Service Award for her countless contributions to arts education and the students at 94M. Sam, a student from PS 138@JHS47M gave the former 94M Principal an Laser Art Painting.
Marquis Studios / VSA NYC honored Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith with the VSA NYC Appreciation Award. An original painting by Maria from PS 138@JHS47M accompanied the Award as well.

District 75 Superintendent, Ketler Louissaint joined David Marquis, Director and Barbara Pollard, Director of Special Projects, Marquis Studios / VSA NYC on stage to present the VSA NYC Calendar Art Awards to student groups.
David Marquis, Director and Barbara Pollard, Director of Special Projects for Marquis Studios / VSA NYC recognized New York City Council Members who provided CASA funding to support arts and education opportunities for people with disabilities and increase access to the arts for all.
Thank you to Margaret Chin, Chaim M. Deutsch, Barry Grodenchick, Rosie Mendez and Helen Rosenthal for attending the VSA NYC Award Ceremony. It was a pleasure to have representatives, Will Brightbill from Council Member Daniel R. Garodnick’s office; Ivia Cardozo from Council Member Daniel Dromm’s office; and Ricardo Aguirre from Council Member Inez E. Dicken’s office attend and accept awards on the Council Members’ behalf. Council Members, David G. Greenfield, Rory Lancman, Deborah Rose, and James Vacca were unable to attend, their awards will be presented at a later date. Thank you all!!
