VSA NYC Award Ceremony – December 1st, 2017

Stephen Yaffe and NYC Student Artists Honored at 2017 Marquis Studios / VSA NYC Award Ceremony


On December 1, 2017, Marquis Studios / VSA NYC presented the VSA NYC Award Ceremony at the Spruce Street School in Lower Manhattan.


Stephen Yaffe, Chair of the Arts for All Abilities Consortium accepted the VSA NYC Arts Advocate Award for his efforts to promote understanding and enhance arts opportunities for students with disabilities.


Russell Granet, Executive Vice President for Lincoln Center Education, introduced Stephen. In addition to receiving the VSA NYC Arts Advocate Award, Stephen also received an original Laser Art Painting donated by student from P721K.


Barbara Hanson, Former Principal of P10X accepted the VSA NYC Service Award for her countless contributions to arts education and the students at 10X. Barbara also accepted an original Laser Painting created by a student at P79M.

NYC DOE District 75 Deputy Superintendent, Barbara Joseph joined Chris Forte, Education Liaison, Marquis Studios / VSA NYC on stage to present the VSA NYC Calendar Art Awards to student groups.


Barbara Pollard, Director of Special Projects for Marquis Studios / VSA NYC recognized New York City Council Members who provided CASA funding to support arts and education opportunities for people with disabilities and increase access to the arts for all.


The event featured a stellar performance by P94@15M Students and Two Too Far!!


Thank you to Margaret Chin, Daniel Dromm, Carlos Menchaca, and Bill Perkins for attending the VSA NYC Award Ceremony. It was a pleasure to have representatives, Will Brightbill from Council Member Daniel R. Garodnick’s office; and Isa Rogers from Council Member Deborah Rose’s office, accept awards on the Council Members’ behalf. We would also like to recognize Council Members Chaim Deutsch, Rafael Espinal, David G. Greenfield, Barry Grodenchik, Peter Koo, Rory Lancman, Brad Lander, Rosie Mendez, Helen Rosenthal, Ritchie Torres, and James Vacca, who were unable to attend. Thank you for using your CASA funding to support the arts for New York City District 75 schools and students!!
